Hello all!
The artist life:
I’ve been focused on teaching and caught up with personal life things, so I don’t have much to share on that front this time. But I do have some nice discoveries to share in the “Things That Made My Life Better” section!
Things that made my life better:
I visited the Craft Circle Vancouver, thanks to a dear friend who invited me. I had such a great time browsing and shopping with her, and I’m so happy with the products I picked up from local and Canadian brands, like the delicious organic maple syrup from Cosman & Webb Farm.
Alla prima oil painting process: What a creative video!!! It made me laugh and I think it’s a great idea to starting daily drawing (HELLO my former Botanicals’ students!!). Except that I wouldn’t choose an apple. Apples in North America don’t decay (what a sad fact). You can use a flower bud instead, to drawing it till blooming and decay or even a banana.
Still on the “Botanical topic”, if you've been one of my watercolor students before, you know how much I love painting lemons, quinces, vegetables, leaves, and flowers… So it’s easy to see why I’m in love with the still life photographs from Jamie Beck:
Her photo compositions, featuring flowers, produce, and products from Provence, inspires me to paint it all. In my point of view, using photographs she makes a contemporary version of Rachel Ruysch’s (dutch still-life) oil paintings, which I mentioned in the July Bulletin (you can read it here).
Plus, she wears scarves beautifully, an accessory I adore! It feels like a trip to Provence watching her compose a self-portrait for Vogue magazine:
Watching people baking shortbread with Snoopy cutters on social media!
I am feeling inspired to bake some for the upcoming festivities! Please, share your recipes!
See you in December’s bulletin!
Let’s enjoy every day of 2024!

Great findings!
It's always nice to see what you've been up to :D Miss you buddy!
Hi Lynda! Good to hear from you!!
Thank you! It truly means a lot to me. I'm thrilled to hear you're collecting inspiring photos.
Taking photos is similar to the "painting mindset" in that both involve finding beauty in the ordinary and framing it through an artistic vision. :)
